Built on Research,
Not Gut Feeling

The Founder Readiness Diagnostic is grounded in decades of entrepreneurship research, behavioral psychology, and real-world startup data. Here's exactly how it works — and why it works.

The Framework

The 6 Dimensions

Each dimension was selected because it independently predicts founder success or failure. Together, they form a composite picture that no single metric can capture. Click any dimension to explore the research behind it.

How Scores Are Calculated

The Scoring System

Your score isn't a judgment — it's a calibration tool. Here's exactly how we calculate it, step by step, with no black boxes.

Calculation Process

01

Raw Score Collection

Each answer is assigned a numeric value (1–5) based on its alignment with founder success indicators. These values are derived from research on what actually predicts startup survival.

02

Dimension Normalization

Raw scores within each dimension are normalized to a 0–100 scale, accounting for the different number of questions per section. This ensures no dimension is artificially inflated by question count.

03

Weighted Aggregation

Each dimension score is multiplied by its assigned weight (Motivation 20%, Time & Finance 20%, Work Style 15%, Risk Tolerance 15%, Business Model Fit 20%, Blind Spots 10%) and summed to produce the composite score.

04

Founder Type Classification

Your answer patterns — not just scores — are analyzed to identify your founder archetype. This is a qualitative overlay on the quantitative score, providing behavioral context.

05

SWOT & Risk Generation

Specific answers trigger pre-mapped strength, weakness, opportunity, and risk flags. These are assembled into your personalized SWOT snapshot and blind spot report.

Score Interpretation

80–100High Readiness

Strong alignment across most dimensions. You have the motivation, resources, and self-awareness to move forward with confidence. Focus on execution and early validation.

60–79Conditional Readiness

Solid foundation with identifiable gaps. You're ready to start, but specific dimensions need attention before scaling. Your report will highlight exactly where to focus.

40–59Developing Readiness

Meaningful gaps exist that could derail early progress. Starting now is possible, but without addressing the flagged dimensions, the risk of failure is significantly elevated.

0–39Not Yet Ready

Critical gaps across multiple dimensions. This isn't a verdict on your potential — it's a signal that more preparation is needed before committing resources to this venture.

Founder Archetypes

The 5 Founder Types

Your score pattern — not just your total — determines your founder archetype. Each type has distinct strengths, blind spots, and ideal business models.

The Driver

High urgency. High output. High risk.

Drivers score high on motivation, risk tolerance, and work style — but often lower on blind spots. They move fast and get things done, but can steamroll important signals.

Key Traits
  • Decisive and action-oriented
  • Comfortable with ambiguity
  • Strong sales instinct
  • Can overlook detail and process
Best fit: B2B services, consulting, direct sales businesses
Watch out for: Burnout, team friction, skipping validation steps

The Connector

Relationship-first. Community-driven. Collaborative.

Connectors score high on work style and motivation, with moderate risk tolerance. They build great teams and networks but may struggle in the early solo grind before a team exists.

Key Traits
  • Exceptional at building trust
  • Natural networker and communicator
  • Thrives in partnership models
  • May avoid difficult solo decisions
Best fit: Marketplaces, communities, B2B partnerships, agencies
Watch out for: Over-reliance on relationships, slow solo execution

The Builder

Systems thinker. Execution machine. Detail-oriented.

Builders score high on work style and business model fit. They create excellent products but often need a co-founder or early hire who can sell and talk to customers.

Key Traits
  • Strong operational discipline
  • Builds scalable systems early
  • Reliable and consistent
  • Can over-engineer before validating
Best fit: SaaS, product businesses, operations-heavy ventures
Watch out for: Analysis paralysis, building before selling

The Analyst

Data-driven. Methodical. Risk-aware.

Analysts score high on blind spots and business model fit, with lower risk tolerance scores. They make excellent decisions when they finally act — the challenge is acting fast enough.

Key Traits
  • Thorough market research
  • Strong financial modeling
  • Excellent at identifying risks
  • Can delay action waiting for certainty
Best fit: Fintech, research-driven products, B2B SaaS
Watch out for: Overthinking, missed market windows, low bias for action

The Explorer

Curious. Creative. Still finding the path.

Explorers often score moderate across all dimensions with no clear peaks. This isn't a weakness — it's a signal to narrow focus before committing resources.

Key Traits
  • High creativity and ideation
  • Broad interests and skills
  • Adaptable and open-minded
  • May lack focus or commitment to one idea
Best fit: Creative businesses, early-stage pivots, portfolio ventures
Watch out for: Shiny object syndrome, low follow-through, unclear positioning
